Serpil Dogan, Apprentice of the Month (back of house)

Serpil Dogan, 24, from Hackney, found it difficult to find employment to meet her childcare needs. After no previous experience, she decided to further her skills in the food and hospitality industry after her daughter who is now six, started school. Serpil is now an apprentice chef and is receiving training in the kitchen, as well as some front of house skills. She is enjoying learning how to cook food from different cultures, and working with the rest of the kitchen staff. Serpil said: "Working at the Hoxton Apprentice has widened my knowledge in the food industry; there is so much I didn't know! I also feel more confident talking and working with people and my communication skills have improved".

Serpil is looking forward to gaining a qualification and completing her apprenticeship as it has given her the skills and confidence to look for a job and further her career in the hospitality industry. In 5 years time Serpil hopes to own her own restaurant serving a mixture of British and Turkish food.
