Some of our current apprentices

Michael, 22…. from casual labourer to a perfect career

Before coming onto the Apprenticeship scheme, Michael had been in and out of work with long periods of unemployment. Having left school at the age of 18, Michael initially started college, but he soon lost patience and left. He found himself taking casual work where possible, but had no idea of what he wanted to do in life. Now a back-of house apprentice, Michael feels he has discovered the perfect career.
Jack, 20…. drifting no more

Jack describes himself as a drifter. After his GCSEs he drifted from job to job and then found himself out of work. He was selected to take part in a ‘Faking It’ exercise – a two week fast-track cookery course based at Hoxton Apprentice. He had found his niche and loves what he does – doing an eight month training course in the busy restaurant kitchen. His ambition is to qualify and work as a chef and who knows, sometime in the future, run his own kitchen.
Patrick, 49…. from DJ to skilled chef in training

Before joining the Apprenticeship scheme, Patrick had made a name as a DJ. However issues concerning his personal life soon took over and Patrick found himself out of work and homeless. He had always had a passion for cooking, so jumped at the chance of taking a Healthy Living Programme at 16 Hoxton Square. Now on the Apprentice scheme, Patrick is looking forward to gaining industry qualifications and eventually opening his own restaurant.
Leon W, 25… not faking it any longer

Leon left school at 16 and found himself in and out of employment. He got involved with the Apprenticeship scheme through the 2-week ‘Faking it’ pilot and Training for Life’s Healthy Eating Programme. Now an apprentice, he hopes to qualify as a Commis Chef in record time.
Sameer, 21…. he grabbed the chance

Sameer had been unemployed for 6 months when he heard about a scheme for young people to find out what they were good at. “I seized the chance because I always loved cooking but had no idea how to get into cheffing."  While doing his 2-week stint in our kitchen, he found out about the Apprentice scheme and decided this was his destiny. He is now being trained in and looks forward to carving a career as a chef.
